Google has just released a tool that let’s you compare and gain insight into what people are buying and selling online. Google Checkout Trends aggregates the sales data of Google Checkout merchants and displays a rich graph with the results (revenue), filterable by date range and price. An online merchant is now able to determine how ‘hot’ a certain item is and compare with other products.
Check it out for yourself. Google Checkout Trends is an invaluable tool for online merchants. We’ll post a more extensive review once we’ve had more time to play with it.
Magento will be presented in a session titled â€Building an Ecommerce Site with Open Source Tools / An Overview of Open Source Commerce Solutions†at SCALE 6x, Southern California Linux Expo. The event takes place on February 8-10, 2008 at the Westin Los Angeles Airport.
The Southern California Linux Expo is an annual Linux, Open-Source, and Free Software conference held in Los Angeles, CA. This is one of three community run open-source events in the United States.
The Southern California Linux also known as SCALE has been held annually since 2002. The event features an expo floor with both commercial and .org / non-profit exhibitors, as well as 2 days of seminars on the topic of Linux and Open Source software. Some past exhibitors have included: IBM, Sharp, MySQL, Debian, KDE, OpenDocument Fellowship, Google, MythTV, and others.
Varien has been selected to present Magento in Twiistup 3. The event takes place in Los Angeles, CA on January 16th, 2008.
Twiistup showcases some of the best and brightest tech talent in Southern California. Twiistup’s goal is to allow start-ups to showcase their ideas and create a friendly atmosphere where guests can network with fellow innovators, investors, job seekers, and established industry leaders. We are proud to announce Magento’s inaugural preview version 0.6 is now available for Download. With the beta release of the product, a new community site is now online … and the long awaited demo store. A few of the community highlights include a user forum, knowledge base, wiki, and more. We’ve also released a series of screencasts showcasing Magento in action.

Over on the Magento Blog, we recently posted a screencast showcasing the concept of grouped products. Grouped Products represent a way to market a set of products within a single product page, as the image below illustrates. This powerful feature is available out-of-the-box with Beta1 (Magento’s preview version) later this month.

Varien is continuing to grow and we are seeking a talented, motivated and entrepreneurial minded project manager. The individual will provide structure and overall vision on our projects. This includes interfacing heavily with our technical teams to assure that the solutions are understood and address the customer’s business requirements.
Responsibilities:
Act as the main point of contact between Varien and the client.
Develops technical specifications for web applications and feature upgrades.
Oversees the launch of new features.
Coordinates among cross-functional teams to identify challenges, recommend and implement solutions.
Provides support, administration, and user training for web-based tools.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, communications, or information sciences, with two (2) plus years experience in Web/interactive/technical product or project management
Familiarity with HTML, DHTML, CSS, PHP, AJAX, JavaScript, and emerging Web technologies.
Solid understanding of web technologies, usability, and information architecture.
Understanding of platform and browser compatibility issues.
Knowledge of basic data management, database concepts, and database-driven Web applications.
Excellent communication, project management, and expectation management.
Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities, meet deadlines, manage risk, and troubleshoot problems.
Detail-oriented approach to work.
