New eCommerce Feature: Ship to Multiple Addresses

The release of Popcornopolis’ site was exciting for the Varien team because it included a new feature custom-developed for Popcornopolis. The ship to multiple addresses option is a feature that can be found on Amazon, but not on many other sites. Just like it sounds, ship to multiple addresses allows a customer to create an order with multiple products and split them between different addresses.
This feature will be especially useful for a company like Popcornopolis . Imagine it is December. You need to send gifts to 6 cousins and 4 aunts and uncles, but don’t want to take the time to order specific gifts for each person. Simply add 10 tins of popcorn to your cart, enter the shipping addresses for each of your relatives and enter your credit card information only once. Your card will show only one charge, while each person receives their own tin of popcorn.
The ship to multiple addresses option integrates into the backend administration panel as seamlessly as regular shipping does. Tracking numbers are created for each package and shown in the orders section in the admin. We are excited about this feature and hope to find new uses for it in the future.
