CelebriteCommerce: Tick Tock Tico Torres Tick Tock
Following the trend of musicians entering the fashion world, Tico Torres of Bon Jovi started Rock Star Baby(RSB) in 2000. The line includes clothing, a baby stroller, toys and jewelry, but the online store only sells the latter two. The first thing a potential customer sees on the online store is a giant picture of Tico holding his baby, awww. I understand the line is called RSB, but what does his kid have to do with silver necklaces? The purpose of an eCommerce site is to move your merchandise. Have specials and promotions on your homepage; at the very least, have some products.
Product pages are plain. There is no upselling thus far. There are no checkout options so I click checkout and am taken to what I assume is my billing and credit card information, but when I enter it and click next I see this:
I have to check my email to complete my registration, then activate my account, and then start the checkout process all over again. I would have bailed out at “Check your email,” but since I am analyzing the site, I continued on. Eventually I got to the choose a shipping method page, but why do I have to choose when there is only one?
It gets worse as I can’t even pay with my credit card unless I want to sign up for PayPal! They only accept bank transfers and PayPal. Now is where even the most patient customer who is completely in love with the product would bail out. It’s literally a 15 step checkout process, worst case scenario, and with no PayPal account it becomes 20 steps. This is completely unacceptable. All I will say is, expedited checkout has never seemed so important.
This site needs a lot of work. It sells high end, expensive products and it has nice cosmetic design, but poor usability. I don’t care how pretty it looks if it doesn’t work. I have better-than-average to advanced computer skills and it took me an hour to get the confirm order page. Pages should be designed so even the most novice user can checkout quickly and efficiently. I am surprised this site has lasted this long, but then again Bon Jovi has been around forever…
