Customer Reviews Get Hijacked

When Amazon began selling groceries we never thought they would get past non-perishable goods. We were wrong as Amazon has been selling milk as part of the gourmet foods category since at least last year, according to the New York Times.

Now, thanks to the site ytmnd.com, “Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz” has 737 customer reviews. The original idea of reviewing milk was posted on ytmnd was picked up by popular blog Boing Boing and the absurd reviews began coming.
Amazon points out that “284 of 345 people found the following review helpful:”
There are few gifts I like to receive more than milk. Whole milk too. That’s the kind of milk that says that it’s real. It’s right. It’s whole. I want that milk to sit there for years because that’s what you do with milk.
Well, helpful may not be the word, but Tuscan milk is certainly one of the most reviewed products in the history of the Internet.
Reviewer J. Fitzsimmons provides this hint for enjoying your milk.
Has anyone else tried pouring this stuff over dry cereal? A-W-E-S-O-M-E
Amazon has dealt with the hijacking of their customer reviews with a sense of humor and a somewhat absurd response of their own. The NYTimes gives us this quote from an Amazon spokeswoman.
I think it’s safe to say that we had no idea that customers had so many strongly held beliefs about their choice of liquid refreshment.
